UJA Federation of New York

Over the course of a four-year project, the American Jewish Historical Society has organized, described, and made available over two thousand boxes of archival material connected with the projects, history and philanthropic mission of UJA-Federation of New York.

This project was generously funded by United Jewish Appeal-Federation of Jewish Philanthropies of New York in partnership with the American Jewish Historical Society.

United Jewish Appeal-Federation of Jewish Philanthropies of New York (UJA-Fed of NY) has been a central force for communal planning and philanthropy in the New York Jewish community since 1917. More than 60,000 donors pool their resources to help people in need, inspire a passion for Jewish life and learning, and strengthen Jewish communities around the world. Projects relate to health and human services, aging and vulnerable populations, Jewish education, and disaster relief.

United Jewish Appeal-Federation of Jewish Philanthropies of New York is the organization that resulted after three mergers over the course of the 20th century.  In addition to the first 15 years of today’s organization, United Jewish Appeal-Federation of Jewish Philanthropies of New York, this collection incorporates the surviving historical records of the following organizations:

The Brooklyn Federation of Jewish Charities

The Federation for the Support of Jewish Philanthropic Societies of New York City

The Federation of Jewish Philanthropies of New York

United Jewish Appeal of Greater New York

The United Jewish Appeal-Federation of Jewish Philanthropies Joint Campaign
