Program Recap: At Lunch with Sally Fischer

March 28, 2024
by Rebeca Miller

This program originally aired on March 21st, 2024 at 12:30pm Eastern.

Julie Salamon sat down with Sally Fischer, Founder and President of Sally Fischer Public Relations based in New York City to discuss her work in PR and the journey to opening and running her own agency. For Sally being in the spotlight is unusual, her role is to promote the work of others which she does with incredible passion and care. Over the years Sally has worked in a myriad of fields such as film & fashion, entertainment, food and wine, fundraising, travel & hospitality, publishing, art, design & culture, and special events. Her career has taken her all over the United States, and while she calls New York City home, for part of high school and college she lived in Florence, Italy. Her connection to Italy has persisted throughout her career, not only by working for Italian companies but also bringing a remarkable amount of Italian businesses to New York. In 2018, Sally Fischer was awarded the distinguished Italian decoration: Cavaliere dell’Ordine della Stella d’Italia by the President of the Republic of Italy, the Honorable Sergio Mattarella for her contributions.

Sally spoke about how her understanding of being Jewish expanded during her time in Italy, as she developed a more global understanding of Jewish history. She lamented the unfortunate and damaging power of misinformation and the potential obstacles that could impact her work. And Sally also celebrated a career highlight; being thanked by Jeremy Irons in his 1991 Oscar acceptance speech.

Topics covered in this program: Publicity, press, Benetton, art history, women in business, entrepreneurship, Jewish Italy, Jewish New York, family heritage, and coming-of-age stories.
