El nou Colós

Translated into Catalan by Núria Diví

When I relocated to New York City, a group of poets befriended me. After attending readings and poetry workshops, I began writing poems in English. I felt a kind of rebirth, away from the conflicts of the bilingual situation at home. I could step aside and express my experiences in a different language. By finding that freedom, and through several artistic endeavors, I have come to feel much closer to my native language, Catalan. Of all positive experiences in New York, this one I hold dearest to my heart. To be invited to translate into Catalan "The New Colossus" feels special.

Núria Diví was born in Barcelona, and has a Master's degree in Hispanic Philology. Throughout her life she has engaged in artistic projects involving poetry, music, dance and performance art. Recently, she collaborated as a vocalist with SU-EN Butoh Co., and appeared in Beth Soll's concert on dance and poetry.

No pas com l’ardit gegant d’anomenada grega,
Conqueridor palplantat a cavall de dues terres;
–Doneu-me a mi els cansats,
