Emma Lazarus Award 2017 Post Ceremony

2017 Emma Lazarus Statue of Liberty Award

The 2017 Emma Lazarus Statue of Liberty Award Dinner was held on November 14, 2017 at the Center for Jewish History in New York City and honored the 125th Anniversary of the American Jewish Historical Society.

The celebratory evening featured an opportunity to view two AJHS exhibitions: “1917: How One Year Changed the World” and “Our History Is Your History: Treasures of the American Jewish Historical Society”; two AJHS archival experiences: “Meet the AJHS Archivists and View Never Before Seen Items from the AJHS Archive” and “125 Years of AJHS History”; as well as six exhibitions from our Center for Jewish History partners.

In years past, the American Jewish Historical Society has presented the prestigious Emma Lazarus Statue of Liberty Award to an “individual or group whose contribution reflects the highest values of the American Jewish community”. Past recipients include Henry Kissinger, Elie Wiesel, Ed Koch, Beverly Sills, the Monuments Men, George Schultz, Mortimer B. Zuckerman, and most recently Larry King, and the Board of Trustees was pleased to honor the organization as the 2017 “recipient” – thereby acknowledging all it has accomplished these past 125 years - while also looking toward a bright future for the next century.
