Emma Lazarus Project: Watch the Video

About the Video

This film follows the 6th grade classes of Hunter Elementary as they explore the American Jewish Historical Society’s archives in order to gain a deeper understanding of “The New Colossus,” Emma Lazarus and the world she lived in. Along-side the students, scholars, artists, and political scientists lend their own unique perspectives to the story of how the “The New Colossus” came to shape American identity. The culminating activity of The Emma Lazarus Project curriculum is to provide students with their own pedestal to share their thoughts and beliefs. The film features just a few lines from the students’ submissions to AJHS’ Emma Lazarus Project Poetry Contest.
